Having taken on their first full-time residency on the White Isle, Toolroom has been making waves both in the industry and on Ibiza. The 15-year-old record label supplies San Antonio with top-notch tech-house every Sunday at Eden.
Acting as a gateway into the industry, Toolroom prides itself in booking new and arising talent alongside industry luminaries, creating a musically refreshing club night.
To name a few, this summer has seen the likes of Hannah Wants, Danny Howard, Jack Back and Leftwing : Cody join Mark Knight in the booth. With still six parties to go, you are still in time to experience the night in all its glory.
To get you in the mood, we asked Toolroom residents and regulars to share with us their favourite tracks of the summer. Get your notepads at the ready – you are going to want to jot down some of these absolute bangers.
The General | Mark Knight
“Sometimes simplicity is key. This came together super easily. The syncopation that the vocal gave me was dead easy to write, too. I wanted it to be stripped back musically and focused on the vocal. It has a really strong groove and hook to complement the vocal coming from the percussion.
It definitely seems to have gone down well all over the world, the language posing no barrier to the vocal. The strength of the record comes from its accessibility it’s one of those records you could play anywhere. From a pool party to a festival, it seems to translate wherever.
People go nuts whenever I play it, which is the aim of the game.”
How I Feel | Martin Ikin feat Hayley May
“I know its probably a faux pas to include your own track, but I have to mention How I Feel. The Dub Mix gets one of the biggest reactions in my sets right now.
When the piano drops it’s a nice refreshing break from everything else I play, and you can notice the room lift straight away. Then when the groove drops back in the energy is right up there. Never fails that one, so definitely one of my tunes of the summer.”
GrooveJet (Blackjack Edit) | Spiller
“Something about the summer makes me want to reach for the classics. This re-edit of GrooveJet has been doing the rounds since the winter of last year but it comes into its own when the sun is shining.
The original is nearly 20 years old but it’s great to see crowds – some of whom may not have been born when it was released – still feeling it.”
Raw Groove | Leonardo Gonnelli & Adne
“This track has featured in many of my sets over the summer – it has such a vibe! It’s a fit tune to mix and it’s never failed to work the dance floor when I’ve played it.
I’ve generally found myself playing Raw Groove in the first quarter of my sets as I feel it warms and picks my set up and sets the tone really nicely.
If you like this track be sure to check out Leonardo’s back cat, he’s got some bangers!”
I Feel For You (Seige Re-Rub) | Bob Sinclar
“I have been playing this one out since last summer and it’s still going off every time I play it. I went to Tomorrowland this year and heard Claptone, Ferreck Dawn, Chris Lake, Francisco Allendes as well as myself, playing it.
I’m still amazed by all the love it received. I know Mark Knight and Danny Howard hammered this as well. Even Bob Sinclar played it which is a great stamp of approval!”
ILLYUS & BARRIENTOS
Let Me Hear Ya | ANOTR
“This is my favourite track of the summer. There’s something irresistible about this groove, and it just works on the dance floor every time, especially in Ibiza. I’m a huge fan of the ANOTR lads, so this track did not disappoint!”
LEFTWING : CODY
I Feel It | Leftwing : Cody
“This one is our biggest track to date. It’s been amazing watching this track grow and to see the smile on people’s faces when this track comes on. Feels incredible!”
